Join us for an important educational program on Wednesday, October 22, at the Jacobs School of Medicine. The Medical Society of the County of Erie, in collaboration with Crisis Services and the Buffalo VA Medical Center, is hosting this educational opportunity focused on suicide prevention in primary care settings.

The presentation will feature speakers from Crisis Services including Celia Spacone, PhD, LaTonya Diggs, and Deanna Schaumloeffel. We will also have Ryan Belka from the NYS Attorney General's office who will present on Extreme Risk Protection Orders, also known as Red Flag Laws.

Registration for the event will begin at 5:30 PM with dinner being served from 5:30-6:25 PM. The educational program will begin at 6:30 PM and will focus on the following learning objectives:

  • Apply structured triage tools to help professionals and paraprofessionals make informed decisions during crisis situations and advance the national framework of Call, Respond and Go!
  • Explore crisis intervention levels and available community resources to better understand how triage tools support effective crisis response
  • Increase efficiency in identifying and connecting individuals with the appropriate level of care during their time of crisis
  • Understand Extreme Risk Protection Orders including the parameters of New York State's ERPO Law and its impact on suicide prevention and rates

This is a free program with dinner provided. There will be excellent opportunities to interact and network with our vendors including the Buffalo VA Medical Center and MLMIC Insurance. This program offers an outstanding opportunity to enhance your knowledge of suicide prevention strategies while connecting with colleagues and community partners committed to improving mental health care.
